On 28 August 2026 Stripe and Advent International ended their pursuit of PayPal, abandoning an offer of $60.50 a share that valued the company at more than $53bn. The board had judged it inadequate, and by the eve of the withdrawal the shares had closed above the offer itself. The premium came out of the stock in a single session.
